Guide 2 Christmas   >   Secret Santa Secret Santa Secret Santa is a Christmas present giving game that can be played in schools, offices, and other groups. Here is how the game is played: Each participant in the game places a piece of paper with their name in a hat (in some variations of the game, they can also write a short wishlist of possible presents on the paper). The participants then draw names from the hat, and must buy a present for the person whose name that they picked. In most versions of the game, presents are given to the recipient anonymously, although in some versions, the gift-giver will personally give the present. The big advantage of playing Secret Santa, as opposed to everyone exchanging Christmas presents in teh group, is that everybody can both give and receive a Christmas, but at much lower cost: it's a lot cheaper to buy a present for 1 person, than 5, 10 or 20 people! Variants of Secret Santa There are also some fun party game variants of Secret Santa that you can play, the best known, of which is called "Thieving Secret Santa". In Thieving Secret Santa, everybody brings one wrapped present which could be suitable for any other member of the group. The presents should be wrapped in such a way as to make it impossible to guess what is inside. The players then take turns. Players miss their turn, if they currently have a present. Otherwise, the player can either choose a wrapped present and open it, or can "steal" an already opened present from another player. Game play continues until every player has a present.
